Dr. Xun Xiao
Xun Xiao was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the MOSAIC group from Novemeber 2012 until November 2014. He is a Chinese citizen and was born in October 1983 in Wuhan, Hubei, P. R. China. After leaving the MOSAIC Group, Xun became a research group leader at the HUAWEI European Research Center in Munich, Germany.
Xun got his Ph.D. degree from the School of Engineering at the City University of Hong Kong (CityU) in Computer Science, supervised by Prof. Jianping Wang. He previously obtained his Master and Bachelor degrees in Computer Science from the South-Central University for Nationalities in 2009 and 2006, respectively. In 2005, Xun was awarded the first prize of his university for being among the top 1% of computer science students. Xun also holds a professional certificate as a senior programmer and software technology engineer.
Xun's research interests during his Ph.D. studies focused on the application of convex optimization and game theory for large-scale telecommunication networks, resource provisioning, and maintenance scheduling in cloud data centers, and spectrum allocation protocols in wireless networks.
After finishing his Ph.D., Xun was a short-term Research Associate with Prof. Jianping Wang (August 2012 to October 2012). From December 2011 to June 2012, he was a visiting scholar in the LANDER group of Prof. Chunming Qiao at SUNY Buffalo in New York state, USA. During his Master studies, he was a Research Assistant at the Research Institute (Shenzhen) of the City University of Hong Kong from September 2007 to September 2008.
In the MOSAIC Group, Xun applied optimization theory, game theory, and statistical learning to problems from bio-image processing and developed a novel algorithm for globally optimal filament segmentation with proven performance bounds (Cramer Rao lower bound on the error of filament segmentation).
