Joel Jonsson is a PhD student in the MOSAIC group since April 2019. He is a Swedish citizen, born in 1993 in Falköping, Sweden.
Joel studied Engineering Mathematics at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden. He graduated in March 2019 with an MSc in Engineering Mathematics and Computational Science. His thesis project, titled “APRNet: Convolutional neural networks for a content-adaptive particle representation of images”, was carried out in the MOSAIC group under the supervision of Dr. Bevan L. Cheeseman, Prof. Dr. Ivo F. Sbalzarini and Prof. Dr. Fredrik Kahl.
During his studies he also conducted a three-month internship and worked for six months as a scientific assistant at the Fraunhofer Institute for Transportation and Infrastructure Systems IVI in Dresden, Germany. There, he analyzed data from electric vehicles and explored methods for on-board estimation of battery degradation effects from measurements of, e.g., battery temperature, voltage, and current.
As a PhD student in the MOSAIC group, Joel will continue on the topic of his master's thesis: developing the Adaptive Particle Representation as a content-adaptive, efficient and scalable machine learning framework for computer vision.
